Bigipan
This animal filled trip starts by driving to our rice district, Nickerie, which also happen to be the border with British-Guyana. Nickerie is Suriname’s 2nd capital with approximately 12.000 inhabitants. After a good meal and our arrival at Nickerie, we board the canoes which take us over the Nickerie river to the Bigi Pan area. Underway you will be welcomed by many birds which populate the area due to its large quantities of fish.
In 1989 the area was added to the “ Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network “ because of its large and diverse bird population.
After approximately 40 minutes the accommodation is reached where a luncheon will be
consumed while the birds hunt, sunbathe or walk about.
On the way back, we stroll through Nickerie, and show you the highlights of the city, where after we let the wind blow all our worries away at seawall, before we return to Paramaribo
