Jodensavanne historical daytrip
This daytrip takes us past the Sunday market of Domburg, past Paranam, through the indian village Powakka to the previous plantation Ayo. Here, we’ll cross the river by boat to the historical Joden Savanne where in the 17th century the first Jewish immigrants settled on top of a hill, which still has a breathtaking view over the river and the area.
After the quick climb to the top of the hill you will encounter the ruins of the first and biggest synagogue of the American Continent, where you’ll see the remainder of the big pots used in processing sugarcane to sugar and also the cemeteries of the Jewish settlers as well as the cemeteries of the slaves. Taste the water of the healing well for yourself, which has flowed constantly ever since the start of the settlement.
