One of the most ideal day-trips while you are in Suriname and love bird- and wild-life spotting is this one. Start is the departure from Leonsberg by boat to the previous plantation Johanna Margaretha, where we consume breakfast and depart to the swamps.

Along the way to Johanna Margaretha and throughout the whole day our guide will explain the history of the surroundings. The swamp through which we will travel is the same swamp as the swamp used to reach the Matapica beaches well-known for its beautiful sea-turtles, but on this day we will travel a different route to the camp which will function as base camp for this animal-filled day. While en route we’ll pass birds nests and even deer in some spots.

Abundant are also diverse coastal birds, eagles, 3 monkey types, caymans, different kinds of fish and of course crabs by the hundreds. Prepare yourself for a day filled with adventure, animals and a complete explanation of the way of life among the inhabitants of this animal-filled area!
