For most visitors of our beautiful country the Brownsberg is the first real experience with our breathtaking rainforest. This, because the Brownsberg is the only nature reserve, accessible over the Afobakka dirt-road, and where it is possible to be accommodated in moderate luxury.

The Brownsberg is located at a distance of 130km south of Paramaribo, between the Saramacca- and the Suriname- river, and the reserve is sized at 12000 acres. On a height of 500m ( above sea-level ) you will find the Mazaroni peak where you will have a splendid view on part of the van Blommenstein ( Brokopondo ) lake and the top of the treeline of the Amazon rainforest abundantly present on the slope of the mountain.

The Mazaroni plateau provides you with the necessary information as it displays a map of the area, and detailed well-placed arrows lead you on hiking trails through the idyllic forest where cool refreshing waterfalls lie named the Irene- and the Leo falls, which in turn are fed by the abundant creeks in the area.

Upon return from the hike a tasteful lunch awaits you, and we can nourish our bodies to the fullest. Some relaxation or exploration time follows here after, for in the evening we undertake another hike to search for frogs, snakes and other nocturnal creatures. After dinner we rest in comfortable beds or hammocks if chosen.

After a hearty breakfast we go to the Berg en Dal adventure center, where most of the day is spent on activities such as hiking, canoeing, and canopying. In the early evening hours we depart Berg en Dal, drive over the Afobakka road to Paramaribo and you will surely have enjoyed an adventurous trip.
