One of the most beautiful places in the Upper-suriname region is Danta Bai, which is located at 30 min distance from Atjoni, and 5 minutes from the Apresina sula ( rapid ). This is a rapid, which almost spans the entire width of the river at that point. While visiting the neighboring villages you will experience the local culture, still kept intact by the descendants from the slaves, while they fish, hunt or see how they produce clothing and pass in their dug out canoes.

At Danta Bai, you can feel one with nature, lying in your hammock while enjoying the beautiful view. Be prepared to be drenched by pure oxygen and the enchanting forestsounds, and the various typical Surinamese meals.

Upon booking you will be given the choice to head:

• Up stream and visit Isadou, Laduani and Gunsi.
• Down stream and visit, Bakaaboto, Duwatra and the van Blommenstein lake.

In the early morning hours the forest inhabitants such as the Screaming Piha’s and several species of monkeys may awake you, and during breakfast our guide will prepare you for the day to come. At night, after a hearty meal and a traditional dance from the locals, we take to the river to spot the spectacled caymans at work. During the forest hikes our guide is sure to explain the medicinal use of several plants and herbs, or point out the diverse animals along the way.

The accomodation exists of beds with mosquitoe nets, or if you prefer hammocks.
