Palumeu
The Amer-Indian village Palumeu is located at 270km south of Paramaribo at the beginning of the Tapanahony river and can only be reached by aeroplane. In the village the tribes named Trio’s and Warana’s live in harmony and are for the most part still dependent on the jungle for survival.
Experience personally how by means of agriculture, fishing and hunting the community is solely based on surviving by traditional ways, see for yourself how the materials gathered from the jungle are used for huts and how some utensils are jungle-based. You will be brought to the Palawa-island, the Mabaku- and the Mankodebaku rapids and the culture of the locals will surely amaze you and give you an unforgettable experience. The accommodations are for the most part built from materials gathered from the surrounding Amazone forest. While strolling through the village you will have a chance to admire or purchase handmade souvenirs and jewels.
You’ll have the chance to admire wonderous flora and fauna from up close while being on excursion, to have the guide inform you about the medicinal use of plants and roots and to watch all worries float away while relaxing in the rapids.
