This bird-rich trip begins early in the morning with the drive to Nw Nickerie, this is the rice district and also the border with British Guiana. Nickerie has a population of approximately 12,000 people and Suriname her 2nd city. After a tasty breakfast, we arrived in Nickerie, we step into the canoe and put us over the Nickerie River and through the transport channels to the Bigi Pan area. Along the way we are guaranteed to see Ibises, Eagles and Waders.
Due to the many types and numbers which these animals came from, the Bigi Pan is area recorded in 1989 in the “Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network.” After about 45 minutes of sailing you arrive at the accommodation consists of an airy wooden house that stands in the water, which covers the area for a very large part. In the early evening we pull it out by canoe and go for caiman spotting.
The next day we leave for another part where a lot of poultry houses are. After we enjoyed our lunch at the property we go back to Nickerie. Through a walking trip you get acquainted with the sights of this border town. Than we head on to Paramaribo short after we visit the Zeedijk.
